Illustrated Manual of Orthognathic Surgery: Osteotomies of the Maxilla and Midface / edited by Peter Kessler, Nicolas Hardt, Kensuke Yamauchi
Springer 2024

"The second of a multi-volume set takes into account the deficit of experience and knowledge gained from 3D preoperative planning and postoperative control using new radiological protocols in surgical procedures, with corresponding consequences. It contrasts the established standard techniques of orthognathic oral and maxillofacial surgery with alternatives that are based on years of experience and knowledge gained from better radiological analysis. Orthopaedic oral and maxillofacial surgery has experienced a renaissance in recent years, primarily due to three-dimensional radiological imaging.
The book has deliberately been structured in such a way that the clinical situation is contrasted with a graphic representation for better understanding, which is intended to point out special situations that can in turn positively influence the surgical planning of the intervention in order to avoid undesirable results in the individual case. The book will have a reduced text part, but witha lot of illustrations, in order to show the surgeon, who works image-oriented, the logic of the surgical procedure in a simple and clear way. The graphic illustrations will illustrate the three-dimensionality of the complex anatomy in the midface region close to the orbits and the skull base. Illustrations must help where radiological images fall short. The structure of the book will nevertheless be classic, as the variations of the established techniques can only be understood on the basis of historical development.
A corresponding textbook that combines clinical situations with pre- and postoperative radiological evaluation and graphic explanation does not exist to date. It will appeal to  a broad readership of students and professionals working within Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery, and Otorhinolaryngology." Oral Healthcare and the Frail Elder / edited by Michael I. MacEntee, Frauke Müller, C. Peter Owen, W. Murray Thomson
John Wiley & Sons 2025

"Taking an evidence-based approach, with theoretical and clinical knowledge underpinned by the literature, Oral Healthcare and the Frail Elder provides a comprehensive reference to management strategies for dental diseases as noncommunicable diseases in older populations. The book presents a global perspective with current guidance for clinicians, addressing the particular challenges of providing dental care for people who are confronting frailty in old age. Reflecting the numerous developments in the discipline since the previous edition was published, this Second Edition has been thoroughly updated throughout with 15 new chapters.
The first section covers background information, including demographics, social considerations, and factors affecting oral health in this population. The second half of the book is devoted to clinical management strategies.
Some of the new topics discussed in this edition of Oral Healthcare and the Frail Elder include:

  • Theories and significance of oral health in frailty and oral health-related quality of life, and the influence of the life-course on oral health
  • How sugar, tobacco, and alcohol initiate and sustain oral diseases, as with other noncommunicable diseases, into old age
  • Mitigation of dental caries, periodontitis, gingivitis, mucositis, and other non-communicable diseases of the mouth
  • Infection control, communications and tele-dentistry, mobile dental services, and strategies to appraise the usefulness of community-based oral healthcare programs

With an emphasis on population and public health in the context of non-communicable disease, the Second Edition of Oral Healthcare and the Frail Elder is an important resource for clinicians dealing with the geriatric population, including dentists, dental hygienists, dental therapists, denturists and dental technicians, nurses, and geriatricians." Exploring AI in Pain Research and Management / by Marco Cascella
Springer 2025

"The book presents a unique and structured interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from medicine, computer science, bioengineering, and other relevant fields. Due to this distinctive feature, the book offers a comprehensive exploration of the intricate relationship between potential AI applications and pain research and management. For example, one of its key aims is to provide valuable knowledge about AI for clinicians who may have limited familiarity with the subject, as well as for professionals in computer science and engineering. This approach is aimed at bridging the existing gap between these fields, offering clinicians insights into AI's potential applications, and providing computer scientists and engineers with a translational perspective on the practical needs in the clinical context. As widely demonstrated, the practical application of research faces a serious obstacle related to the limited communication and collaboration between research areas that are often very distant from each other. Therefore, this dual perspective could be useful to collocate the book as a valuable tool for fostering collaboration and understanding between these traditionally distinct domains.
Furthermore, the structured framework of the book could not only facilitate learning but also serve as a foundation for future projects in the realm of AI and medicine. Specifically, it will be developed by following a framework useful for additional editorial projects, focusing more acutely on AI applications in anesthesia and critical care. By doing so, the book aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse and advancements in these specialized areas, filling a gap in the current literature. Therefore, the book seeks to make a meaningful contribution to the integration of AI in pain medicine, but also in other medical fields." From publisher's website.

Treatment Planning In Implant Dentistry / edited by Winston Chee, Saj Jivraj
Springer 2024

"This book outlines a comprehensive interdisciplinary practice philosophy designed for developing the foundation of optimal diagnosis and treatment planning in implant dentistry. Each chapter will have a comprehensive literature review followed by diagnosis, treatment planning and comprehensive patient case presentations. The goal of modern implant dentistry is no longer represented solely by successful osseointegration. In order to claim success, the definitive restorations must be surrounded by a soft and hard tissue environment in harmony with the existing dentition. This book focuses on analogue and digital workflows from single tooth to full mouth. It discusses the approach of interdisciplinary therapy which involves the combination of knowledge, skills, and experience of all the disciplines of dentistry. Information on the rationale for dental implants and surgical guidelines is provided as well as on the biomechanics of occlusion and the medical evaluation of the implant patient. Subsequent chapters cover treatment planning in the aesthetic zone, impression techniques and scanning, the role of orthodontics in implant dentistry, and screw and cemented restorations. Implant maintenance and failures and complications are discussed in the final part of this book, which is a valuable resource for a wide range of practitioners." From publisher's website.

Infection Control in the Dental Office in the Era of COVID-19 / edited by Louis G. DePaola, Robert Windsor, Nisha Ganesh
Springer 2024

"This book discusses the treatment of dental patients in the post-COVID pandemic years and the required compliance with recommended infection control practices to ensure the safe delivery of oral health care.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had the most dramatic impact on healthcare, inclusive of dentistry, in history. SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is a very dynamic virus and each new variant appears to be more transmissible than previous variants. More effective infection control strategies had to be developed to prevent transmission of COVID-19 in the dental office.
Readers will find guidance on the reduction of aerosol in the dental office, information on vaccines, vaccinations and the re-emergence of vaccine preventable diseases. Infection control during implant placement, oral surgical procedures, N2O administration and IV sedation is explained. In addition to SARS-CoV-2, the book provides information on other emerging respiratory diseases such as Influenza,Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and the emergence of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio, HPV) that present significant risk of transmission if proper infection control practices are not followed. The indirect effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed including a significant increase of STDs (syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, HPV), new blood- borne infections such as HIV, HBV and HCV infections, as well as a significant increase of healthcare acquired infections and superbugs."
